Flooding in Taray & Pisac
The community of Kusi Kawsay, the sister school of Kusi Ccoyllor and partner in the Andean Education Alliance, has suffered devastating floods due to the bursting of a dam above their town. I will let their words, below, speak for themselves. More information about the school can be found at www.kusikawsay.org. As they say below, money is needed to buy food and clothing for their children. Donations can be sent via Pachamamas Path, a community-run organization: Click for Support. The money will go to their US bank account and then wired directly to the community in Peru. Thank you in advance for your help in this devastating time.

Dear Friends,
You already know that the Sacred Valley is being destroyed by flooding, the overflowing of the lakes and the Vilcanota River, and the continuing rain.
The town of Taray where we have lived for three years now doesn’t exist. It is covered by mud, rocks, and water continuing to run. There are now three rivers of water running through the town, seven people have died (5 from one family), yesterday we had the funeral in the midst of the rain
A few hours ago the water from the lakes above Pisac dropped town, 8 women from the organization “El Peru Avanza” who were working to make a dam against the water were carried by the current to the river. Now the town (Pisac) is taking care of their bodies in the plaza on top of the mud and under a slight drizzle.
We live in Coya and we already have had the worst, we have had floods, we have spent nights making sure that the water didn’t enter our homes. We saw the neighboring houses fall, we helped the town build defenses of earth and rocks…all of this already happened and now there is a strange calm in our town. The danger moved on to the next town.
We thank God that we are safe and our house is protected. There is much anger and sadness and desperation surrounding us.
We have organized the teachers of the school (Kusi Kawsay) to prepare breakfast and lunch for the children, whether they are students at our school or not. The economic support is coming from Estrella del Sur.
Any help in the form of clothes or money would be a great benefit. If you would like to make a non-monetary donation please contact us by clicking here.
With love,
Lourdes and Martin

Flooding in Pisac
Original version in Spanish
queridos amigos,
